D-Day - 5 Inspiration

Today is 50 years since Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, orbited the Earth.

And my first picture from my Astronomy Camera - the half moon as seen on Sunday evening.

The BBC has an interesting article about a sub-2 hour Marathon here.

And some inspiration for me as I train the last week before my Sunday sub-30 min attempt.  Thank you everyone for the inspiration!

"This isn't a math test" .... indeed. Great video.

You, sir, are going sub-30. All the confidence I can muster in you. Make it happen.

My great great great uncle or something like that was Deke Slayton - one of the NASA Mercury Seven and the oldest dude to ever go into space. I hope this impresses you.

You are going to kill the run. I know it.

Wow, very cool video. I'm coming back and watching that 20 times before my marathon. Good luck, Andrew!

P.S. Your mention of Yuri Gagarin made me think of this article I read online last month. http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2011/04/08/134597833/cosmonaut-crashed-into-earth-crying-in-rage

That article on the sub 2 hour marathon was great to read. Gebrselassie's 2:03:59 is insane. But I guess back when Roger Bannister broke 4 minutes in the mile in 1940 or something going lower than that seemed impossible. I love watching the top marathoners run, they make it look so easy! I try to watch all the Olympic marathons, haha I agree with the article that it will a long time before someone has the capability to run sub 2 hours, 2:02 like the article states seems like a decent goal the next 20 years. Running 13.7 mph for a marathon is just insane!

awesome Nike commercial too - it was great to see my Stanford Cardinal in the clip at the 1:30 mark, that was the game in 2008 when they beat USC who was favored by like 30 points, one of the biggest upsets in college football history. It was heartbreaking to see Gail Devers in there too, I remember that 100 meter hurdle race in the Olympics. But she got her gold in the 100 meter sprint race. Amazing music by Explosions in the Sky, I'm a big fan of them.
